I’m a portrait photographer based in the UK and my work has appeared in many of the world’s foremost publications, including The New Yorker, Vogue and Time.

I’ve won a couple of World Press Photos, in 1997 and 1999, and was a jury member for the awards in 2010 and 2011.
I had my first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2005, and the institution currently hold over 100 of my prints in their permanent collection.

In 2014, I was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.

In 2017, my book, Survivor: A portrait of the survivors of the Holocaust, was published by Octopus. Described by Martin Parr as “something really to behold…”, and by Alain de Botton as “A masterpiece and deeply moving”, it was also judged one of the 10 best photography books of 2018 by the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation.

My second book, Single Dad (Hoxton Mini Press), came out in 2021 and my third, On Divorce, was released by The School of Life in 2023.
